To my classmates, past and present students, friends, colleagues, and the families of Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District

Recently, I received a glass apple commemorating my service to NW.  Thank you for the gift.   I will cherish it for what it represents.

I am grateful to have served NW’s children.  To be allowed to serve your children as a teacher, drama director, and coach has been an amazing experience.   I have been blessed to know and teach them.   They have made my life very extraordinary.  I can never enumerate the many ways that interacting with them has made my life happy and satisfied.  Knowing them has also allowed me to know so many amazing families who do their best in these wonderful yet trying times.  Participating with them and watching their activities has given me great fulfillment as I have seen them try to achieve worthy goals.    I am grateful to have seen their efforts on the stage, courts and fields, and in the classrooms trying to do their best.

To each of the students whom I have taught and athletes whom I have coached, I say “thanks.” Thanks for the life lessons you taught me.  Thanks for the talks.  Thanks for the time spent together.  I will never forget you and your efforts.   You are terrific.

To my classmates of NW, I am thankful to have shared a large part of my life with you.  You are remarkable in your support for one another.  So many of my best memories are of us in classes, on the playing fields, and socializing at NW.  I am proud of your extensive accomplishments.  I mourn for those who have left “this mortal coil.”

I also wish to give praise to my teachers and colleagues, past and present, in education.  I have watched these teachers, principals, coaches, counselors, school related personnel, maintenance personnel, and bus drivers work with knowledge, expertise, patience, and a willingness to help the youth of our district.   So many of them have served by going “the extra mile.”  They are extraordinary in their capacity to teach, guide, and protect.  I believe that if there were more expressions of appreciation for them and the important work they do, that the atmosphere at NW would improve vastly.  For each one of them, working with the children of NW is much more than just a job.

Now, to all of you who have helped me in a personal way, thank you.   I can never express sufficient gratitude for all that you have done for me. Your support was especially felt during times of difficulty for me.  I hope that you know that I have tried to serve with morality, steadiness, and appropriate engagement.  I have tried to connect positively with every student with whom I have had contact.  I have tried to be a good school citizen and employee.  If I have disappointed you, forgive me knowing that I have tried to do my best.

I express great gratitude for my opportunity to have been educated and work at Niagara Wheatfield.  This opportunity has given me the experience of learning and serving with some of the finest people on this earth.  These past fifty-four years, as a student, employee, teacher, and coach, have been “the best.”

    May God bless you always,
